Guys, Beasts of the Southern Wild was SO GOOOOOOOD. I can count on one hand the number of movies that have made me cry, and this one almost got me.

Easily the most beautiful movie I saw in 2012, if not one of the most beautiful in my entire lifetime. If you get a chance to see it, WATCH IT.

While I share in Anthony Hopkins’s opinion that the Oscars go to whoever sucks up the most/lobbies the hardest, the news that this brilliant indie got nominated at the Oscars was a wonderful surprise. Yes, more films like this should be made, and yes, Quvenzhané Wallis should get all the acting parts. YES GOOD.

I normally do not post this kind of stuff, but I believe in this case it is urgently needed.

My friend, who wishes to remain as anonymous as possible and does not feel safe posting this herself, sent me all of these screenshots of her interaction with this comedian. Notice how the first interaction (the fb wall post at the top) starts out innocuously enough—then it delves into him outright mocking her, insulting her, and LYING about her via twitter. He then proceeds to send her creepy facebook messages and, when blocked, makes a dummy twitter account to further harass and stalk her. If you check his regular twitter account too, it is full of disgusting comments.

This bullshit cannot stand, and will not stand. I want everyone to know what a racist, misogynistic piece of trash this man is. Please signal boost, spread the word. Let’s let the world know his vitriol against WOC will not be tolerated.

I do not know how helpful this is, but this is my friend’s story, and she has asked me to tell it on her behalf, so please, at the very least, listen and keep this shithead in mind next time you hear his name. Thank you.

Nasim Pedrad is the first, and so far the only, full-blooded Asian* actress they’ve cast, and she plays white, black, and Asian characters. But tbh she does more impressions of white celebrities than of any other ethnicity.

*Fred Armisen is half-Japanese and Rob Schneider is half-Filipino, and they both pass and play/have played white characters, among other ethnicities.

I’ve been meaning to post something about The Big Bang Theory for a while now but it’s taken me ‘till now to really understand what it is about the show that makes me uncomfortable. I’m not exactly a believer in the whole “only write about the things you like, don’t trash the things you don’t” trend which seems to be plaguing comments sections in negative articles lately, but I wanted to be able to really examine why I don’t like TBBT rather than just slagging it off. My main questions being - Why don’t I like this anymore? Why do I feel uncomfortable watching it? And why do I get so annoyed when I see people sing its praises online? The thing which really sparked this post was seeing a raft of comments on Facebook, below the last round of voting in Television Without Pity’s Tubey Awards, claiming The Big Bang Theory to be “the best comedy on TV”. This made me angry so instead of posting an impulsive comment calling out their bad taste which I’d probably regret later, I decided to really analyse why seeing comments like that made me so mad when previously, although I didn’t really love the show, I’d never considered myself as disliking The Big Bang Theory.

Hell, I even have season one on dvd, it’s sitting right between Battlestar Galactica and Bored To Death in my alphabetised collection.

And here, I think, is where my problem with The Big Bang Theory lies…
